What is Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT)?
LLLT is the application of a coherent “cold”
laser light to help certain conditions. It has been used to successfully treat many kinds of musculoskeletal injuries, because
it promotes healing and tissue repair. LLLT has also been found to be an extremely successful therapy for alcohol & drug
addiction, weight control, and smoking cessation.
Is LLLT safe?
LLLT is a safe, painless and medication-free therapy with virtually no negative side
effects. It has been used in England, Canada and Europe for over 20 years with no documented adverse side effects. Laser therapy
is a non-medical procedure and is respected by many doctors as a highly effective therapy. Several companies
are currently participating in a study by the FDA to validate the effectiveness of LLLT. Countless people are raving about
their successful medication free therapy.
How does LLLT work?
The laser light easily penetrates through the layers of your skin to activate
healing responses by your cells and to stimulate your nerve endings to produce endorphins. Endorphins such as serotonin are
produced normally by your body and are nature’s natural mood lifter and helps keep you from feeling anxious or moody.
The therapy of specific points helps to reduce the desire to eat, providing a natural satiation without food in using it for
weight loss therapy. The laser helps to balance organ and glandular functions that regulate weight. LLLT quickly helps to
activate the bodies innate cellular communication system and positive immune, enzyme and endorphin response.
Will the therapy hurt?
No. LLLT is completely painless. In fact, most people describe an extremely
relaxed feeling after being treated.
How long does a session take?
Therapy only takes about 30-60 minutes. Your first visit will
include a personal consultation, so you should allow at least an hour for that appointment.
How much does it cost?
Sessions start at $20.
Will my medical insurance cover the cost of laser therapy?
Since LLLT is not a medical
treatment, insurance will not pay for it. However, the costs may be tax-deductible. Check with your accountant.
Are there any health conditions for which laser therapy is not recommended?
Yes. LLLT is not
recommended for those who have blockages, tumors, active cancers, epilepsy, or for those who are undergoing radiation or chemotherapy.
If you have health concerns, consult your primary traditional medical doctor prior to therapy. Our office does not "treat"
for cancer, epilepsy or people who are already undergoing radiation and/or chemo.
How does the laser treatment work?
We use a low level laser (also known as a therapeutic or cold
laser). It works along the same principle as acupuncture but of course, no needles. The points that we work on are on the
ears (auricular points), nose, hands, wrist, and forearm (meridian points). It is a very relaxing and pleasant treatment.
We work on different areas with the therapy, depending on what you need it for.
What Other Conditions Can Laser Therapy Help?
While low level laser therapy is gaining its popularity in the medical world, some people may ask
what conditions can it be used? You will be amazed to know that nearly all common body conditions can be helped with
low level laser therapy.
As long as the right wavelength and dosage is being applied to capture the best area so that the tissues will be energized,
your body cells will be rejuvenate to do their function once again.
Here are some of the questions you need to ask yourself so that you will know if you need a low level laser therapy.
1. Are you suffering from a new or even old injury you got from your sports?
2. Are you suffering from stress injuries
every now and then like carpal tunnel syndrome?
3. Are you having constant lower back pain?
4. Are you having migraines?
5. Are you taking pain relievers more than three times in a week?

are suspecting that you will get scars from the surgery?
10. Are you suffering from cold sores?
These are just few of the questions that you can answer so that you will know if it is already time for you to use low
level laser therapy. Should you answer a yes to any of these, then that is already a clear indication that you need to get
yourself on this therapy.

after one or two sessions. But most of the time, the therapy needs to be carried out several times to get the best possible
therapeutic effect.
Here are the Physiological Effects of Low Level Laser Therapy:
1. Increases the cell growth. Low level laser therapy will promote rapid production of cells, thus, there would be faster
healing of wounds.
2. Speed up the healing process. Cold laser will promote the protein synthesis on damaged tissues. Actually, collagen
is the protein, which is essential in the repair of these tissues. It is elastic and it is the one that holds the cells intact.
3. Energize the cells. Low level laser can cause the output of some enzymes to increase. There would be more supply of
food and oxygen for the cells, thus higher production of ATP or adenosine triphosphate. This is the major carrier of energy
towards the cells of the body. And since cells are energize, faster healing is expected.
4. Prevent scarring. As mentioned, collagen is being produced. Collagen will prevent scar tissues to be formed at the
damaged area. Scar tissues are actually less elastic as compared to collagen, which is very elastic.
5. Higher lymphatic system activities. Low level laser therapy was proven to speed up the activities of the lymph vessels.
And that is the reason it can prevent swelling or edema. The liquid and the protein, which causes edema, can easily be transported
at a quick pacing and that is the reason even the pain will subside with the therapy.
